As a fourth phase of a cooperation that started in 2001 and the overall objective was to contribute to the development of a sustainable statistical system in Albania. A sustainable statistical system will facilitate decision-making based on relevant and reliable statistical information that meets domestic demands as well as EU requirements.
The following six areas were identified in 2014 as priority areas for the technical assistance in this project phase:
- Management
- Agriculture and environment statistics
- Economic and business statistics
- Social statistics
- Statistical methodology
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Project results:
The Institute of Statistics in Albania (INSTAT), the main producer of official statistics and the coordinator of the national statistical system in Albania, has continuously increased its institutional capacity since 2014. The statistical system is also developing gradually. The project has supported INSTAT in developing its capacity, helping to ensure the quality of statistics and increasing user awareness. The project has mainly assisted in developing sustainable capacity to strengthen the national statistical institute (NSI) and enable it to take on board the duties and responsibilities of a national statistical institute. The idea is that when there is high capacity at the agency, the knowledge will then be dispersed within the national statistical system.
